Hitachi Introduces Zaxis 160LC-3

Hitachi 160LC Excavator

MOLINE, IL (March 15, 2007) - The new ZX160LC-3 replaces the Zaxis 160LC. Even though it generates 10-percent more horsepower than its predecessor, the ZX160LC-3 uses less fuel. New E, P, and H/P modes can be selected to suit job needs. The E mode can save fuel consumption up to 13 percent compared to P mode on the previous model.

Like all Dash 3s, the ZX160LC-3 uses the HIOS III hydraulic system. Engine performance and hydraulic flow are perfectly balanced for fast and smooth operations. Swing torque has been increased about 6 percent for faster cycle times. Thanks to regenerative hydraulics and more hydraulic flow, arm roll-in and the boom lower/arm movement are faster. Multifunction operations are smooth and precise.

With over 2,400 more pounds of operating weight, the Zaxis 160LC-3 has made significant improvements in stability and lift capacity. Combine this with standard power boost and this machine is capable of putting a lot more power to the ground. Even with this growth, the ZX160LC is sized to fit on a 40,000-pound tag trailer for easy transportability.

Other key features include a stronger undercarriage, X-beam, side frames, idler brackets, and front attachment — all designed to further enhance durability. Improvements include a nearly 13-percent increase in drawbar pull and a 15-percent greater fuel tank capacity.

Hitachi has designed its cab with the operator in mind. The result is that the 160LC-3 may well provide the most comfortable and operator-friendly work environment in an excavator today. The Dash-3 CRES II cab is larger and comes with a wider seatback, more leg room, and 47-percent more glass on the right hand side for improved visibility. Low-effort, short-throw levers are easy to use. This fingertip control also reduces operator fatigue. The multilingual widescreen LCD color monitor provides maintenance, attachment, and operational information. An optional air-suspension heated seat is also available.

The cab is also prepped for auxiliary hydraulics. Other options include several arm and shoe sizes, control pattern change valve, and auxiliary hydraulic accessories.
