FAQ

ZXLink™ Machine Monitoring System Customer FAQS

How does the system work?

Data, collected from equipment, is presented to site and fleet managers to enable them to more effectively monitor utilization and health of the equipment. The remote monitoring system collects pertinent data from equipment and transmits it via a dual band digital / analog cellular modem, back to a database. The data is conveniently accessed through the web from the customer's or dealer's office and displayed in the form of meaningful information.

Why are there 3 levels and who would use them?

Each of the offerings is targeted for specific end users. Rental businesses need to know where the machine is and the number of engine hours to do more accurate billing and improve utilization.

Dealer service managers will benefit from ZXLink Select to track machine locations and imminent maintenance needs and will be able to recommend service based on the stored machine operating history.

Customers with larger fleets would certainly have need for machine location but would also want access to the more intimate machine operating data available in ZXLink Ultimate to track fuel consumption, interrogate diagnostic trouble codes, and improve uptime.

Why has Hitachi Construction Machinery formed an alliance with Qualcomm for this product?

Hitachi Construction Machinery brings a thorough knowledge of the internal workings of our machines and the applications in which they work and understand how machine data can be interpreted for scheduling maintenance, tracking utilization, and identifying opportunities for operator training. Qualcomm is the industry leader in telematics both on and off road. They have the infrastructure for transmitting machine data to a web site for storage, interpretation and access through the web from anywhere and a suite of applications that convert the raw data into useful information.

Are there limitations to the equipment ZXLink can be used on?

The ZXLink Express solution works on any machine with a 12- or 24-volt charging system to provide hours, location, and geo-fencing. This is a flexible tool for managing maintenance on a mixed fleet. ZXLink Select and Ultimate are connected directly to the machine communications network (CAN) on select models of Hitachi construction excavators. It is proprietary to Hitachi Construction Machinery and provides more detailed information about the machine health and how it is being used. For more information see your Hitachi dealer.
